Therapies

Models of hypnotherapy

There are various models of hypnotherapy, and the decision as to which technique to use will depend on the discussion between you and the therapist and the presenting issue.

Here are the models that I use most regularly:

Clinical Hypnotherapy

Whilst you are experiencing the wonderful relaxing feeling that hypnosis brings, the powerful hypnotic suggestions that are given to you will give you the energy and drive to change the way you view and deal with your issues. The suggestions will be realistic and achievable and you will feel motivated to use them again and again.

Cognitive Behavioural Hypnotherapy

This model of hypnotherapy uses a combination of theories from both cognitive and behavioural psychology. It is a particularly effective process and can help to achieve beneficial changes in the way we think, feel and behave by restructuring negative thoughts and behaviour responses. It can be used to help a wide range of issues such as fears and phobias, anxiety and panic attacks, sleep problems and confidence issues.

Motivational Hypnotherapy

Motivational hypnotherapy is effective where a client wants to make a change, or to achieve a goal. It can be helpful for s moking cessation, weight control, career goals and performance enhancement for sport, learning and creativity.

Analytical Hypnotherapy

Sometimes clients are unsure of why they have a particular problem or cannot achieve a goal. It can then be useful to use analytical age regression techniques to have a look back and discover what occurred in the past that has lead to the current situation. Subsequently clients will learn alternative strategies in order to cope better and lead a healthier and happier life.

NLP Techniques

Neuro Linguistic Programming (NLP) is a model of communication that provides a way of helping clients become more competent at what they do, gain more control over their thoughts, feelings and actions and become more positive in their approach to life.

It offers a mental model of how the brain works (neuro), how language interacts with the brain, (linguistic) and how this interaction is used to bring about positive results (programming).

My personal approach to hypnotherapy

There is a tremendous difference in the styles and approaches of different hypnotherapists, fortunately, as a member of the National Council for Hypnotherapy (NCH), I am not tied to any one particular method. I use an eclectic approach, keeping up to date with all the latest developments in the field, whilst retaining the most effective, tried and tested methods of the past. Where appropriate I use NLP and Ericksonian Hypnotherapy. For those of you familiar with broad therapy terms I go for a blend of behavioural and cognitive approaches, only using the more time consuming analytical methods were appropriate. I believe in working quickly and as effectively as possible for my clients, rather than convincing them they will have to return week after week.

I support the principle of 'goal orientated therapy', in other words you state clearly at the outset what you would ideally like to achieve or change and that is what we work towards, rather than labouring over many weeks to uncover and relive past traumas and blockages.
